The Gas Tank Story

It is a bit of an amusing Coronavirus story.

So if you are a German, on holiday or business in Italy, and trying to return to Germany....you need to cross through Austria or Switzerland.

Well....as of today, Austria is refusing all folks traveling up from Italy unless you show a medical certificate....meaning that you took the virus test and passed.

If you are a German?  The Austrian guards at the border are allowing you to proceed on.....as long as you allow them to view your fuel tank situation, and you can make the trip with the fuel on board....without stopping.

Distance?  From the Brenner area....to the nearest German town (Mittenwald)....it's about 75 km (figure a minimum of a quarter tank of fuel, if this were a gas-guzzler car).  If the vehicle were electric?  Oh man, that would invite all kinds of questions.

You can imagine the tough Austrian guard guy standing there....saying none of this is possible, then suggesting if you can just show the fuel situation and promise as a German....you would not dare stop in Austria, then continuing on via 182 to the nearest German border point.

If you dare break down, or decide to stop for a bit of schnitzel or wieners?  Some idiot will probably observe your tag....call the cops, and suddenly you are in serious trouble.

This is how crazy the virus business is being taken, and why you just need to forget about all travel for the next year or so.
