The German Coronavirus Situation

1.  The infection number is this morning around 1,500 total in Germany.  Deaths: two at this point.  I should note....both had age issues, and one had a serious heart and diabetes situation.  Journalists do continue to mention some people are in serious condition but the death numbers haven't changed.  The third German dead?  He was a Hamburg firefighter who'd gone off to Egypt on a vacation....gotten sick there, and passed away in an Egyptian hospital.

2.  Chancellor Merkel has called for a big crisis meeting....CDU and SPD Party members, union officials, and big names in the German industry.  Topic....how the government can help to ensure they survive in the chaos.  Meeting to start on Friday evening.  Expect talks with CDU and SPD people all weekend, and some massive program to be rolled out on Monday.

3.  All German states are considering Health Minister's proposal to ban any event that involves 1,000 people or more.  Decisions can only be made at the state or city level....NOT by the federal government.

4.  NRW is still at the top of the infected list....484 folks.

5.  Most all school districts are cancelling school trips for remainder of the school-year.

6.  For years and years, a ban on Sunday work has existed in Germany (under very limited conditions, you can open a shop or business for operations).  Well, there's talk that a waiver is going to be issued, and the ban will be lifted for certain conditions (like delivery of grocery goods, truck movement on the autobahns, etc).  Expect this to be matter approved for six to twelve months.

7.  Vacation industry in Germany for 2020?  No one says a lot but you can expect a massive slump for the normal companies.

8.  There is a study produced by virus experts in the US which is making the rounds with German virus experts.  The Germans had discussed over the past two weeks that the summer period would help to reduce the number of cases.  Well, the report suggests that the virus will blast right through the summer with no pause.  But with their estimate.....most everyone by the end of summer (2020) will have had the virus, and the peak will have been hit.  The Germans experts are starting to agree with that analysis.

9.  It's openly discussed by the German virus experts....while the Wuhan death rate was up (2 to 4 percent, depending on who says what)....in Europe, it's closer to .7 percent.  Reasons?  No one says much. It ought to be a major topic of discussion.

10.  RKI numbers say that plain regular flu in Germany, since October 2019....have been around 120,000 cases (confirmed with lab numbers).  There's probably more people who just never had the lab tests done.  Deaths?  200.
