8 July 2024: Eight German News Stories

 1. Weather guy came up yesterday and said for my region...Tuesday temp will hit 31 c  (88 F)....probably the 4th day of the summer over the 30 C threshold.

But come Wednesday morning....we  drop back down  to 24/25 C. I looked at the 2 weeks going forward...it stays in the 22 to 26 C range....an awful moderate summer.  AC unit is still in the basement.

2.  German soccer star Toni Kroos (having retired this past week from playing) held a interview on ZDF (public TV, Channel 2).  He noted that he no longer lives in Germany (going  on 10 years now).....due to what he deems safety problems caused by mass migration.  Where he lives?  Spain.  He talks about the fear of his daughter being safe....if they did live in Germany.

I'll just say....if you live in a metropolitan situation in Germany...you need to continually reflect upon what's going on and be vigilant.

3.  This past week, the statistic came out from the German federal gov't.....nearly half of all people getting welfare payments from the German gov't....are non-Germans.

4.  WELT did a piece over the weekend talking over the NordStream pipeline blow-up operation.  The analysts believe this 'plan' was originally discussed in 2014....by the Ukraine.

5.  There was supposed to be a new German federal law 'limit' on  fertilizer use by farmers....at least the Bundestag felt they had this done.

The Federal Council (made up by the states) rejected the fertilizer law.

All of this was supposed to reduce nitrate pollution in water bodies.

What happens now?  Some groups will meet between the Council and Bundestag to mediate the numbers.

6.  2023 numbers came out for road deaths in Germany...added up to 2,839 (slightly more than the previous year).

7.  France election results?  Left-wing party (New Popular Front) ended up in first place with 182 seats

President Emmanuel Macron’s Ensemble party?  168 seats.

Le Pen and her Rassemblement National Party?  143 seats.

What you can  take here....no absolute majority (you would need 289 seats).  So I'd suggest a lame government....passing little.  Economic problems?  Whatever they have now....only increases in the future.

Germans shaking their heads?  Well....you end up looking at two extremes in French (left/right) and a serious amount of theatrics in both France and Germany.

I should add this odd tactic used in a number of districts....Macron's Party removed candidates from running....expecting the vote in  those districts to go toward New Popular Front.  Not sure if this were effective or not.

8.  Two cruise ships in Kiel were blocked from leaving the port....by environmentalists.  Took 3 hours for the police to settle the mess.
