For those of you who were stationed around Wiesbaden in the past.
Around three years ago, in the Wiesbaden area.....there were two US Army properties which were discussed to turn over to the Germans. They were the Mainz-Kastel post (sitting along 455 in the heart of Kastel) and the Mainz-Kastel housing area (halfway between Kastel and Amonenburg, along Wiesbadener Strasse).
A fair amount of re-use planning went on with the Wiesbaden city planners, and various ideas were being formed up.
At some point, a part of the housing area was flipped to the Germans, and was used as refugee housing....while the bulk of non-housing on the property was still used by the Americans.
Well....in the past week, it's been announced that both properties are to be retained....mostly over the 500-odd new Army members coming in from the states.
Disturbing the German plans? To some degree....from the news piece last night on HR (public TV).....the Germans were still hopeful that only a small part of the property would be retained and some part of their re-use would take place.
