About Those Kids and Their Environmental Lawsuits

Eleven lawsuits had been created in Germany by teenage kids against the government....on the grounds that they (the teenagers) were being "disproportionately burdened in the future by too hesitant climate protection measures."

In simple terms....the kids had been told and believed in the entire statement that the world was going to come crashing down in the next thirty-odd years, and they'd be handed the 'bill'.

Well....these eleven lawsuits reached up to the level of the German Constitutional Court.  The judges paused over the wording, and said 'no thanks'.....we won't grant you an audience on this topic.

Not much is said after that.

I would imagine the chief problem is....what factual evidence do you present, other than a model here and there, and the statement that 'Professor Doom' or 'Doctor Disaster' is making about the world ending in 9.2 years.

The kids basically wanted the judges to order the Bundestag to take matters in a certain way, and order them to comply.

The end of this?  Well....for now.  I'm sure the kids are pretty disturbed by this and cussing out the Green Party for screwing them over so much.

For me?  I'm a bit peeved that this will likely turn into a 12-minute news item for 9:45 PM public TV news, and a bunch of teenagers talking about how upset they are that adults seem to run everything into the ground.

Recently, I've noticed the young people today, as well as the media, seem to be gleaning scientific data and facts from a teenager from Sweden.

Look, those Swedish kids are super-smart by the fifth grade, and most are ready for the 'big-world'. We shouldn't hold them back. Let them run the subway systems, distribute food, operate the power grid, and develop replacement cartoons for Space Ghost/Bullwinkle Show. It's not like they seem 'cultish' or seriously unruly on Fridays. Let them Swedish kids lead the world. If they don't seem ready....send them back to attend the 6th grade, and retry again.

Well, given the track record of the post war generation constabulary kicking the can down the road for someone else to deal with the problem, economically, environmentally, and socially I think they've got a pretty solid point.

Obviously that's not all of that generation, but I notice consistently that they tend to believe the comforting lies of the mainstream media, and when challenged with facts their eyes tend to drift off into the middle distance and they change the topic.
