The USSR Op-Ed

NTV (German commercial news) brought up an interesting story this morning.

Shortly after the Ukraine-Russia war started.....RIA (a Russian news group) 'accidentally'  published up a op-ed.

You would describe the opinion piece as a celebration of victory in a 72-hour period of war.....then opening up to talk about something called a "new world order".

This week....the guy who wrote the op-ed....went to a second version (not an accident).

In this one....he sees the developing future as Soviet Union, version 2.0.

The title of the piece?  "The Russia of the Future - Forward, in the USSR".

The key quote?  "We will live again in the USSR, but not in the one that the anti-Soviets fear or that the communists dream of. No, we are beginning to build a just, solidary and sovereign Russia."

My gut feeling?  There are some Russians (certainly not over 25-percent) who live in a 'bubble' and have positive feelings over the era prior to 1991.  Their problem?  The same group got used to western influence, Paris cafes, trendy Nike tennis shoes, high quality BMWs and Volkswagens, trips to Thailand, the Kardashians, and McDonalds.

In some weird way, they want to live in two separate worlds, at the same time.

I suspect some Russian people will rad this pro-USSR op-ed, sip over some vodka and just start laughing.  They remember how disorganized the USSR was, and this whole invasion/war routine is a five-star example of USSR marginalized planning and incompetence.

If you read through 'war reports' this week.....a number of Russian soldiers have had frost-bite, and been brought back from the 'front' for medical treatment.  If you remember the Hitler experience in Russia.....kind of a repeat.  The Germans never issued extreme cold-weather gear, and the Russians appear to have done the same thing.

(Suggestion: maybe some middle guy took the cold-weather military gear pallets last year in Russia and sold them on the black-market?)

The op-ed guy ought to go down and spend a week in the Russian-controlled areas of the Ukraine and ask how destruction will be resolved in this new part of USSR?
