Berlin-city leadership (not the federal folks) have stood up and said in the next few years....they intend to make the inner city (not saying the exact area) will be gas/diesel car free.
N-TV covered the basic story and it's worth a read.
All of this....naturally...is to save the planet from the C02 crisis.
I should note.....this is plan one....with a plan two on the books to extend out the zone to the whole city (not just the inner city).
Along with this discussion....there's idea of a mandate on new building construction....that you have to include solar panels.
Acceptance by the public? Unknown. Around 1.3 million cars were registered in Berlin around a decade ago. Those owners probably have a certain view of the discussion.
Cost factor? No one openly discusses that part of the episode, and it's a curious thing, which you'd probably like a round-number estimate on how this would affect people.
The odds of this getting people aggravated enough to pack up and leave? I'm guessing most folks believe this idea will falter in five years and get tossed out.
