This AM....some news folks are reporting that the Last Generation actvists....so busy for the past year, in blocking road/streets....by gluing themselves to the pavement...are about to change/evolve.
New tactic? Being against the rich? Well....that's the hint.
It's left to be mysterious in a way....they won't say what this really means other than saying their target will be 'symbols of modern wealth' and involve in some way of showing off 'reckless waste of the rich'.
I sat and pondered over this.
Typically, if you asked a German to indicate reckless wealth? They'd point at yacht clubs, golf courses, Porsche and BMW dealerships, fine restaurants, ultra-exclusive nightclubs, and 5-star hotels.
If you were to target some of these? Well...they hire privatae security, and if you were juvenile-stupid-enough.....thinking private security wouldn't hurt you much (even in Germany).....you'd be guessing wrong.
Now, part of me believes that the activists kinda figured out that in all the weeks of glue-me activity....they'd convinced less than a thousand people of their good intentions....so they had to do something different.
In picking the rich-and-elite? Well....they will put pressure on lawyers to sue the hell out of the Last Generation backers. Yes, via civil court, this will get into a nasty situation.
I'm not really convinced this phase will last long. My suggestion is that it'll fad out by the end of 2023, with another target selected.
But the one pain that will come out of this.....the coalition government (the SPD-Greens-FDP) will somehow come to go against the activists with police action, and intensify the negative view of the gov't.....by this activist group.
