I watched a ARD (Channel 1, public TV) news piece today, and the emphasis was.....about three years ago....as the SPD had won the fed-election....the Greens wanted to be a partner, and they had some agenda items on the table.
So one of the agenda items....they wanted to create a 'path'....where Germans ate healthy foods....not bad foods.
The Agricultural Minister....a Green Party guy....felt if you labeled everything....you'd know X was bad and Y was good.....then you'd rationally make the right choice. The quote from Cem Özdemir was: "I want everyone to have a real choice when it comes to good food."
As ARD lays out the story....this agenda...more-or-less....failed.
Reasons? They vary.
For schools and Kindergartens.....the money for the 'good' food was not there.
These funny laws about advertising for bad foods....to halt....mostly failed.
That sugar tax idea didn't really get accepted.
To be honest, from my view....there's just a lot of calorie-rich food in Germany, which you can deem as 'bad'.
