President Steinmeier of Germany gave a speech today over the upcoming federal election....basically saying the great threat to Germany....is 'X' (Twitter).
The slant? Misinformation or disinformation.
The alternative? Well...just trust ARD/ZDF (public TV). The problem with this logic....I'd say roughly half the nation isn't that trusting of their intentions.
In terms of social media usage? Well...it's about 7-to-8 percent of German society who use Twitter for news 'collection'. Yeah....Facebook and Instagram are higher use platforms.
Does Steinmeier know this? I doubt that.
Here's another data fact from 2024 collected information.....only about 50-percent of Germans say they use social media platforms of any type. So it's an awful small core group who are Twitter-compulsive.
If you asked me (a regular reviewer of X on German media reports)....the majority of Germans who are on there....aren't really Green Party or SPD Party enthusiasts. They lean more so to the CDU, CSU, or AfD. I might even go and suggest at least one-third of Germans on X....are mostly sharing sports stories.
Is it a legit thing to worry about disinformation/misinformation? Absolutely. But only around one-tenth of the country is getting Twitter-ized....so I might worry about TV influence a good bit.
