The Ultimate Witch-Hunt Story?

So I'm going to tell this story over Hans-Georg Maassen.  You probably haven't heard of the guy, and here in 2021.....Maassen matters to some odd degree.

Back in the summer of 2012, Maassen (member of the CDU Party) was chosen to head up the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (basically the German version of the FBI).  It's a fairly significant position, and you don't go appoint knuckleheads or dimwits into the job.

At the time, he was around fifty years old.

Things went fine for Maassen until late August 2018, and some riots occurred in Chemnitz.....mostly over perceived integration issues and foreigners.  I should note here....Chemnitz is halfway between Dresden and Jena, and is a former DDR city.  I probably should note that it has a fair sum of radical left folks and a fair sum of radical right folks.  It shouldn't matter, but maybe in this case....it mattered.

A fight broke out during this week, with a Cuban-German dead (assaulted) and a couple of others seriously injured.  Oddly enough, two Kurds, an Iraqi and a Syrian were the chief target by the local police over the fight.  I should add here....the facts to the fight are limited.

But this death and the right-wing protests led some locals to the idea that this was all a right-wing conspiracy (the two Kurds, the Iraqi and the Syrian.....were just thought in their minds as by-standers).

I should add....one of the four had six police reports in his backgrounds (drugs, fraud) and he had some kind of weird request for a permeant visa which revolved around a police report of being beat-up and knifed....which seemed to be questioned over the authenticity of the attack.  All of this is pretty weird....so try to stay focus over the dead Cuban-German and right-wing stuff.

So Maassen was challenged over the discussion.  What some of the locals and opposition political folks wanted....was a true hunt for the right-wing folks.  Nothing is clear over his homework done here....if he confronted the Chemnitz police and dug into the four odd characters in this whole thing.

A committee from the Bundestag basically said....no matter how you feel....you need to go after right-wing folks in Chemnitz.  Logically, most of us in this position would have gone to create a massive but fake investigation....taking six to twelve months, thus finding some halfwit guy to blame something on, and relieve the four odd characters from any crime business.

Well....Maassen didn't do that.  He put it simply....there was no true evidence to waste assets on some massive witch-hunt.  I might agree, but witch-hunts always occupy the time of the village-people and make them think that witches will be eventually found (I should note, in the old  days....they were mostly all women, who seemed friendly to some degree with cats).

So the committee said clearly.....telling Chancellor Merkel.....if he doesn't start this witch-hunt....he needs to be fired.

What Merkel does is kinda interesting....she dump Maassen back into the Interior Minister's lap.  Seehofer looks at the mess and says 'fine'....I'll dump him from that job.  Then shortly after that....Maassen is found a new job.  Somewhere in the midst of this....a slight payraise.

Well....things go ballistic now.

Maasson is now moved to an adviser job...no payraise....and is eventually herded out to retire/resign.

Opposition party folks felt really good about this.....a scandal out of the Merkel group and a guy fired.

Now, you would stand there and ask.....so what happened with the replacement guy and how this Chemnitz thing was handled?

Well....late summer 2019, the Syrian suspect ends up in court and convicted.  Murder/bodily harm in the charges.  Gets 9 years of prison.

The new guy for the Protection of the Constitution?  If you dug through things....he does go off and run an investigation which does seem to say something about right-wing violence.  Yes, there's been a bunch of hype and anti-vigilante chatter....along with tons of condemnation of evil right-wing folks.

As for Maassen?  Well....he's always been in the background, and on some occasions commented about the poor communication and leadership within the government.

So in the last month or two....Maassen came out in his district, and he's announced to be a candidate for the fall federal election.  For the big CDU folks in Berlin....this is a serious problem because Maassen is rather blunt in his criticism.

Last night....on the Anne Will Show chat forum....the 'Fridays for the Future' gal did a dump on the CDU chancellor candidate....Laschet, and suggested Maassen is anti-sematic.  It's a confusing situation and Laschet did defend the guy.

All this witch-hunt stuff just playing out to the next level, onto some ultra top-level?  More or less.  If you got 100k right-wing folks you are worried about....you'd best start building prisons now and prepare for some massive hunt and court-mess.  Otherwise, the public will eventually figure out that your fake witch-hunt stuff is juvenile stuff and just fake.

As for Merkel and the CDU crowd hoping that Maassen will just go away?  Well....they obviously screwed up on that idea.

So all of this.....leading back to a few folks on the street at 3:15 AM in Chemnitz who probably all had a beer or two, and got confrontational/physical....with one guy dead?  Yeah.....that's really where this discussion started.

The bottom line?  You typically burn witches, and half the time....you burn witch-hunters....and on rare occasions....you just go burn anyone for the entertainment of the crowd gathered.  On some really special occasions....the witch-hunters you chased away with threats....come back to make you the entertainment.
