Normally, off German public news (ARD or ZDF)....they will let you know about evil 'right-wing' enthusiasts. If in the middle of some telecast and about to allow some speech or interview to occur....you get the verbal warning about right-wing such-and-such about to occur....so you realize the potential impact or hit your mute-button.
Last night....via the ZDF folks....just as they got to the warning moment...they used a new phrase.
'Ultra' right-wing.
I was caught off-guard and didn't have time to mute the chatter.
So I sat there....contemplating the difference between plain right-wing and ultra-right-wing.
Generally, if you asked me to define either left-wing or right-wing....I can go onto a 30-minute discussion. It's just not that difficult to describe either group. But ultra-right-wing?
After a while, I then wondered.....could you have ultra-left-wing? If so....would it be obvious that they weren't just plain left-wing?
This all being confusing? Well....if you were just a regular German news viewer....you might have thinking over this for an hour or two....wondering if their version of 'ultra' means the same as your version of 'ultra'.
