I've essayed a couple of times on the attack in the Hamburg/Kiel area....onboard a train (2 dead, 5 wounded), and involving a recently released (from jail) migrant guy. So, today....the ARD (public TV, Channel One) has updated the story, and it's kinda interesting.
The journalists went out and dug into the jail period of this guy.
Once the arrest warrant was finished....there was no comprehensive mental exam to determine if the guy was 'safe'. There was a follow-up appointment scheduled....but that was on the calendar for the 25th of January....the day he attacked the folks on the train.
What prison employees did say of the guy? Well....when he entered the prison....he had major withdrawal problems (they suggest cocaine and opioids). But then they came to suggest he had delusional problems...totally separate from the drug issues.
Was the guy self-medicating for the delusional issues? You are left to wonder about that part of the situation.
All of this making for a difficult situation for the Chief Prosecutor (a Green Party member)? I would suggest that.
The more you look at how this attack occurred and potential mental issues....you begin to wonder if this guy was delusional back in 2014 when he first arrived in Germany, and he's been mentally unbalanced the whole time....without the system saying or doing much about it.
