Hessen State Election: What You Should Know

 1.  Set for 8 October this year.

2.  Current make-up of the state gov't?  It's a CDU-Green Party coalition, with the SPD, AfD, FDP and Linke Party in opposition.

3.  Top topics?  Well....the Frankfurt housing situation, environmental issues, and the recession.

4.  Faces?  The SPD is running Nancy Faeser (Federal Minister of Interior) as their head.  She made the comment this week....she would not resign from her job as she runs for the party.

The CDU has Boris Rhein, who has been in the lead chair for about a year.

5.  Polling?  The CDU has near 30-percent and will likely win.  The SPD has gained since the 2018 election and is near 23-to-24-percent.  The Greens are around 19-percent.

Presently, the Linke Party has lost the most voters since 2018, and probably won't get any seats.

The AfD is at 12-percent, and the FDP is near 6-percent.

End-result?  It's possible that the SPD might marginally win.  Six months ago, in polling....the Greens were pulling 25-percent.  Whatever the Greens have lost....has been a gain for the SPD.
