The Monday Demonstration

If you follow German news this morning, through various outlets, there's going to be various demonstrations throughout Germany....particularly in Berlin.

The group involved?  Extinction Rebellion (XR).

So who is XR?

It's basically the next step up from the Greta-team.  No longer school kids, but university 'kids'.

Their emphasis?  They want to draw attention to mass extinction of animals and the approach collapse of the climate.

Here's the big part of their deal....they intend to be more radical than the Greta-kids....that means blocking traffic, hindering the public as much as possible, etc.

The highlight of today?  Journalists suggest that Berlin will be shut-down to some degree for the morning hours.

Across all of Europe?  Yep, all of the major cities will have some element of XR going on.

So I looked up the history of XR, and it's an odd thing.  It's only been around for a year....having started in the UK.  The founder of the group is some Brit organic farmer.  They claim to have several thousand Germans now in the group and divided into various chapters (may approaching a hundred) across the globe.

As you look over this....it appears to be made up mostly of college kids, and you have to wonder....missing a whole Monday morning of classes, in support of this protest....will the university just bless this missed time, or look upon it as a negative thing?  The trouble I see....if you'd done this on a Saturday or Sunday as a demonstration....it wouldn't have been that big of a deal.  But by doing this on a Monday....you affect the traffic flow for a million Berlin resident trying to get to work on time.  Instead of making those people happy....it's going to frustrate a fair number of people.
