Why Violence Distresses Germans

About 45 minutes north of Frankfurt is the city of Marburg.  It's mostly known for being a university town, and having a population of around 80,000 people.

There's a fest that started up this week in the middle of the town.  Typically, you have some rides, fest tent operations, beer being consumed, delicious but greasy foods, 'fun' and 'frolic' (as much as Germans can muster, sarcastically spoken of course).

So last night (Friday), things got a bit out of control.

What the cops now say is that two groups of individuals met up in this fest area.  No one says much about booze consumption, drug use, or age of the characters involved.

A fracas started up.  One guy got cut on the back of the neck....enough to say 'wounded' and a hospital trip.

Like most fests in Hessen now.....there's the standard group of police on patrol (enhanced to the ninth degree), and another back-up group within five minutes of a call.  What is reported is that ten patrol cars (two police per vehicle) reacted to the guys who were walking the patrol at the fest area.....so a minimum of probably thirty police were on the scene in a quick manner.

Based on witness comments and efforts....cops apprehended three of the folks and an investigation is underway for the knifing and assault.

Here's the thing....mass confusion kinda occurred, and the general public was on the edge.  No one says much over who stayed or left, but I would imagine that half the crowd that observed the fracas and the enhanced police effort....got the urge to leave the fest.

Even if the cops did their job, and the guilty parties were arrested....it still has an effect on the general German public.  It distresses them.  It triggers vexation.  It dissolves the public of confidence of feeling safe (in their own backyard).

This being foreigners or locals?  It doesn't matter.  It could have been two groups of drunk teenage German young lads, or groups of Albanian guys all weeded-up, or two groups of Italian young ladies insulting each other.  It's this increasing element of worry....that you might not be safe.  This is simply another trend of what is ailing Germans.
