End of the Kandel Situation

Around twenty months ago, I essayed a piece about a 15-year-old German teenage girl, who'd been stabbed to death by the former boyfriend....a Afghan migrant teenage 'boy'.  It was in the town drug shop.  The girl had in some way, 'dumped' him.

Well, as I essayed later....the court system went through the whole story, and his age was examined.  He wasn't 15 as he'd suggested but somewhere between 17 and 20.

He ended being treated as an adult, and given 8.5 years in prison for the assault and murder.  Yeah, I know....it's not much for a murder, but this is the German view of the situation and his age.

Well, around Thursday of last week....he was found dead dead in his cell (suicide).  There's going to be an autopsy.

Suggestions by the police?  The guy found that other prisoners weren't that friendly with him, and he was having some stress in adjusting to the prison setting.

It's one of those end-stories that really doesn't settle much of anything.  This is a young guy who needed adult supervision, and role-model type guidance on a daily basis. He never got that.  Whatever bad habits he had in the old country.....he brought with him, and couldn't cope with the landscape situation.
