"Unbelehrbare"

I had to look up the German word 'Unbelehbare' when I heard it used.  It's not exactly a term that I'd heard before.

The meaning?  Basically you are talking to someone and they demonstrated that they are simply 'unteachable'....so you'd throw this word at the person (probably in an insulting way).

So how it came up?

Over near Frankfurt (south of the city) is the town of Langen (about 10 minutes away from the Airport area).

Langen has this fantastic sandy lake area.  From the 1970s, when I was stationed at Rhein Main Air Base, this was one of the places you'd go in the summer.  In those days, it was free, and no one 'controlled' the lake.

Since then, things have changed.

Right now in the Corona period, Germans (especially in the Frankfurt area) are desperate for something to do, in term so recreation.

They used the lake in a massive....to the point that the parking lots were overfilled.  Then they started parking along the main road, and into the forest areas next to the lake....showing the willingness to walk a kilometer....to reach the lake entry point.

Because of the dry nature of the forest, and the protection factor.....the local rangers basically said 'enough'.....no more parking in the woods.  From the weekend, over 300 parking tickets were issued.

So today, the lake management folks said 'enough' and shut down the lake.  No one says how long (it might be for a week or two.....or the rest of the summer).

Hostility?  I would guess in Frankfurt....folks are now fairly angry over the limited recreation in the local area, the Covid-19 ban rules, and the remaining summer.

The use of the word 'Unbelehrbare'?  The lake management folks are pointing most of their blame at locals who won't listen to them.  What they wanted were people taking the train over to the town and walking roughly 4 km (figure 40 minutes) over to the lake.

Finding Germans who'd go for a 8 km walk walk in the blazing sun to reach a lake and then return to the station, and ride a 'HOT' train back home?  These folks were expecting a lot.
