Here in Hessen over the past week, we've had a couple of communities (mostly all rural areas and smaller villages)....where the local water supply system has gone 'dry' (barely providing any water).
HR (our public regional TV network) laid out the basic story.
The towns of Schmitten, Grävenwiesbach, and Weilrod...all said 'enough' and went to emergency rules. Basically, there's not even enough water to flush toilets or take showers. Fines up to 5k Euro can occur if you are found 'wasting' water.
Chief reason? Well....the drought this year has been fairly harsh. I can say locally from where I live in Hessen....since late April, there's probably been less than 2 inches of total water to fall. The grass is completely dead.
Normal? Yes and no. You can figure on average, about every fifteen years....you have a pretty dry year. The problem here is that it's the third year in a row with this extreme drought situation, which is corrected around September timeframe.
More towns to start emergency situations? Probably.
