28 March 2025: Seven German News Stories

 1.  Several working groups of the CDU/CSU and SPD parties are engaged in coalition talks...which could cost taxpayers at least 500 billion Euro (extra)....over a four-year period.

What they'd spend it on?  Well...more clinic/hospital money (includes pharmacies).  Then some type of expansion of parental allowance and the multi-language daycare centers.  Energy tax reductions?  Yes, as well.

Then they brought up lowering the VAT (tax) for the catering industry. Finally, they want some growth on the mother's pension, and the reduction of the air travel tax.

As you can imagine....this new tax stuff is worrying folks.  Target?  Stock and investment folks?

2.  Chatter on getting rid of the name 'Burger-Geld' (basic welfare name)?  Yes, both the CDU-CSU and SPD...agreeable....everyone is negative about the name.  More money in the pot?  The way they talk....yeah, you might see 5-to-10 percent more.

3.  German church taxed folks leaving?  Over 2024.....1-million Germans said 'enough' and quit the church tax. It amounts to 8-percent of your paycheck....if you pay it (optional).  Yeah, it means financial worries to the two  churches.

4.  Collapse of new convertible cars registration in Germany?  Well....for 2024....no one really wants a new convertible now.

5. German cops say because of data-sharing.....1,500 folks who arrived at German airports....were detained on charges in 2024.  Record year.

6.  Some serious problems with the CDU-CSU and SPD in coalition talks.  I noted yesterday....some journalist had started discussing the CDU-CSU attempting to run a minority government.  It is conceivable that they can't form a deal.  At this point, I'd  give it only a 5-percent chance of happening.

How long coulda minority gov't survive?  Maybe twelve months.  It would benefit AfD....raising their status,  and getting them by mid-2026 up to around 30-percent in polling.

7.  Finally, late news on ZDF (Channel 2 of public TV).....saw the return of their chief TV news guy....where he noted he had used Deutsche  Bahn (the railway system) for his previous week of leave.  As he noted....all 100-percent of the 'legs'  were delayed.  I'm supposed to travel to Hamburg on Saturday (2 legs)....anticipating the delays.
