A Pit Story

This past month....German cops in the Offenbach (Frankfurt) area  were alerted to a 'problem'.

So what they say....in this woods...a mile or two south of the Rosenhöhe district, is a manmade hole....about four meters (13 ft) deep (circular in fashion, 4 meters wide).

Recent 'dig'.

Purpose?  Well....no  one knows.

There are theories here: WW II stuff buried, Red Army Faction weapons that were hidden, gold from Roman era, etc.

The crew just quietly left?  Well....that's the belief....that they found whatever they were looking for.

Authorities?  Sometime next week...some crew (they don't say if they are city-workers, or some contracted folks)....will come out and dump a dump-truck-load of dirt into the pit.

Having been stationed around Frankfurt (1970s)....I will vouch that the soil locally is fairly sandy....so if you had two guys with shovels....you could dig this pit in six to eight hours.

A good script for a German comedy-mystery movie?  Yeah...I could see some secret map being dealt with and folks believing in some hidden Roman gold.
