I'm kinda interested in this court episode unfolding in Verden....over the RAF terrorist gal....Daniela Klette. I was around in the late 70s in Germany, and remember the threats.
So the defense of Frau Klette have laid out a curious opening position.
Her lawyers now say....Klette can't have a fair and legal case....because it's all 'political'.
I pondered over this....if you are a German and born around 1975 or afterwards....you probably have zero knowledge-level of the RAF or the terror stuff.
But then they added this one problem.....the court needs to show 'membership'. This is not some kind of 'card' membership operation. You will have to find someone who was a member and have them vouch on Klette, and this might be a problem.
The two operations that Klette is suspect in? Well....the 1991 US embassy sniper attack (Bonn), and the 1993 explosive-attack against Weiterstadt prison (it was still under construction).
The evidence in both cases? Somewhat limited. The German gov't would have to put someone on the stand who knows some type of insider knowledge. The odds of producing some DDR information....from the old Stassi files? Yeah, that's the key thing that Klette has to worry about. A lot of people have the opinion that the Stassi had a major say in RAF operations.
