What Would Really Be Different Between NATO and a EU-Run Military Structure?

Over the past week, I've pondered  this.  So my five observations:

1.  Turkey is 'out' if there is no NATO.  I'm not saying it's a good thing or bad thing....but they would not be part of a EU structure.

2.  Twenty-eight members of the EU would have to crank up and spend a LOT more on defense.  Whatever they spend now (today) for NATO.....you can figure to double that amount....meaning you take a sum of money away from infrastructure or 'free' stuff.

3. The permanent 'Doctor-Evil'?  Russia.

So who do you buy natural gas and oil from?  Well....you'd be over with Russia and writing contracts....paying them your cash to re-arm.

4.  The odds in an election year....that three or four countries have a serious election.....where military decisions lead to a loss, and a whole new crowd  arrives to  challenge EU decisions?

5.  Finally, if I were Portugal or Spain....I'd ask why I need to fulfill financial obligations....when I don't consider Russia to be a threat to my country?

NATO is a house of cards at this point. The EU won't be able to fund or support it either with the needed manpower or material.

Just finding another 100,000 extra troops (EU-wide) would be an issue. Course, they might be crazy-enough to say you as a refugee....can get citizenship....if you pull 5 years of service. I wouldn't want to be a German Major in charge of a hundred such troops though.

Well, all we'd need to do is enlist every 18-29 year old gamer to do remote work and fly drones whilst sitting at home. Given the 'mighty' Russian army has barely done shit except get itself slaughtered against the tiny Ukraine force, I think that the EU should be pretty much fine. I think that we need to denazify Russia, especially all the training for extremist groups that happens in St Petersberg, where a lot of the citizens identify more with Finland than with Russia. They'd be much happier if they were liberated from the clutches of the corrupt Moscow elites.

While I agree...gamers are a useful crowd in limited numbers....you won't need more than 200 of them. For the forty-odd thousand other slots....this crowd won't work. In addition, I don't half the age-group motivated, and they will affirm (when drafted) that they are hard-core AfD or Linke Party folks...thus avoiding service. As for the Russians.....their strategy of tank-warfare....was crap when anti-tank rockets were introduced, and their tank/APC inventory was whacked out of existence in roughly 18 months. They weren't smart enough to adapt.
