Kinda curious....ZDF (Channel 2 German public TV) has come up today with a new strategy on programming....called 'One ZDF for Everyone'.....meaning they will cut a fair amount of the movie/show productions aimed for older women (forty and over).
What this means....only a couple of the Rosamunde Pilcher books each year will make it into the movie format.
Those 7 PM cop shows? Some of them will go away.
So, here's the basic story.....of the two public 'big' networks (ARD and ZDF)....ZDF tends to lead on viewership, but it's mostly the older viewers and traditional 45 minute soap opera-like shows.
If you sat with a couple of 18 to 25 year old guys/gals.....they'd tell you there's nothing much on the schedule to ever interest them....nor would the ZDF of the past have any interest in attracting them as viewers.
The other problem? Streaming video has a ton of stuff to offer....which neither ARD or ZDF can compete with.
I'm curious what they will put on the production schedule, but it's hard to imagine them getting anything other than light comedy, some romance novels flipped into movies, or some vacation 'saga' to Thailand.
