16 Sep 2026: Germany: 7Things

 1.  Gas price at noon in my village....E-10.....2.48 Euro.  Just guessing....in two weeks....bound to hit 2.68 Euro per liter.

2.  EU says they have a mechanism to make Canada a 'associate' member.  Whether it'll be a national vote or just a parliament vote....unknown.

3.  Culture Minister Weimer did a talk today....asking whether the public TV system in Germany is still needed in its current form. He wants to radically reduce ARD and sell ZDF.  Part of this relates to a cost factor....what it takes for both continue on.

Selling ZDF?  The TV folks there would go 'crazy'....probably to be downsized by half.  Positive side?  They have a decent TV movie production side, and have several gameshows that draw viewers. Who would buy them?  My humble guess is that RTL might have some ideas (plus the cash).

4.  Stadthagen (NW Germany) a argument started up between several children over a ball escalated on Tuesday evening. Cops say 30 adults gathered for a brawl....five (at least) were wounded.

When police arrived....they went straight to pepper-spray to untangle the mess.

5.  I sat and watched a news piece last night....regional German school operation (gymnasium)....13-year old kids being taught some aspect of recognizing fake news.  Curious thing....at no point did they ask AI what was AI-created....they had to use their 'wits'.

6.  EU talking about a 'water-plan'....three parts I noted....fixing infrastructure leaks (nearly 25-percent of water is estimated to be lost in pipes)....getting some type of drought risk management up and running, and enhancing water security for industry and food production.

7.  Natural gas reserves 'tanks' for Germany....as of the 16th....filled to 56-percent of capacity.
