A Show and Knife story

About six weeks ago, I got into one particular German TV show....DSDS (Germany Seeks a Super-Star), an RTL-network show.

They go through a weekly process of checking out various candidates with singing talents....some more than others.  To be honest, the majority lack any real talent.

So they had this guy on....20 years old....black...from Dusseldorf...who went by the name Diego.  On the very first show with Diego, to me it was obvious that he had a mental problem (probably paranoid schizophrenic).  But he could sing....decently, but only in some form of rap.  He got a 'pass' and continued on the show.

Three weeks ago, he came on with the next selection show, being produced down in South Africa.  There was no doubt in my mind....he was suffering from some form of schizophrenic behavior.  At various points, he seemed to chill out (perhaps from some drug use).

Two weeks ago....they just said 'enough' and put him off the show.

Well....Focus brought it today in the news...cops got called in the AM this morning....Dusseldorf...some guy was found seriously hurt.  Suspect arrested.  Suspect?  Diego.  Cops suggest an attempted murder with a knife.

So as the story is basically laid out....Diego has been noted as mentally ill for some time now and has lived in an assisted living facility.  It appears that the show folks had seen some video of Diego...knew he could sing to some degree, and had some mental issues.  They did some name change deal, and brought him on the show.

Part of the gimmick involved here (no one says who came up with the idea)....was that Diego would claim he was a son of the late rapper Tupac Shakur.

As Focus tells the story, this whole effort was part of the treatment-plan of the staff at this facility....in an effort to help him participate in social surroundings.   Maybe no one on the staff expected Diego to get the big invite, or go as far as he did..

The guy stabbed?  Diego's father.  I have my doubts that he'll press charges, and maybe this will all go by.  As for the show's use of Diego?  It's hard to say if they knew what they were doing or if they felt there was any risk here.
