Rare Shooting Situation for German Cops

In all of 2017, Hessen (the German state) cops had to resort to using a weapon five times....with two folks dead.  It is awful rare that these situations come up.

Well....HR (our public TV news media in the state) reported an event from this morning.

Over in Fulda (about an hour's drive NE of Frankfurt), cops got a call around 4:20 AM.  Some guy acting crazy on the street.

Cops arrived in minutes, and were confronted by a 19-year old guy from Afghanistan (registered refugee).  He reacted to the cops....throwing rocks and had some type of baton.  Cops gave a warning....withdrew their pistols, and shot the guy.  Dead.

From what the cops assembled after this....the bakery personnel had arrived early, and a delivery driver had pulled up....being attacked by the Afghan guy.

What'll happen now?  Full investigation.  My humble guess is that an autopsy will show some significant drugs in the Afghan guy's blood system.

There's been a debate going on in Hessen of allowing tasers to be carried by the cops.  Lot of negativity by various groups, and some folks absolutely don't want to see them deployed.  However, in a case like this?  A taser would have put the guy on the ground, and they could have handcuffed him before he came out of it.
