I noticed this morning over at ARD (public TV news, Channel One) that growth of the EU was brought up.
The hype?
The EU met and recommended accession negotiations with Albania and Macedonia.
Both have been trying hard to show progress and improvement. Both want to be a full-up member of the EU.
One should point out that these accession negotiations could run for several years, and it's very doubtful that it'd conclude in 2018.
As for the advantage for the two countries? Well....both have serious problems with unemployment, especially with the younger folks. This would open up a door where they could legally enter Germany and take jobs.
