I sat last night and watched the German music awards....the 'Echo'. Live show....via VOX (commercial TV network). Typically, there would be nothing confrontational. Well.....last night was different.
Over the past year.....two rappers have gotten themselves into the middle of a mess. Kollegah and Farid Bang.
I would take a guess that 90-percent of Germans don't know the two, or their music.
Over the past year, they put out a rap which spoke at some point....."My body defined as by Auschwitzin inmates" (my translation). Some Germans think it really went over the morals 'line'.
Last night, about half-way into the program.....the Tote-Hosen group lead-guy....Campino.....was supposed to present an award, and instead went into a morals-preaching moment over the two rappers. Since they were attending the Echo Awards....I felt that this preaching moment probably didn't serve much.
About 30 minutes later....another award was served.....going to Kollegah and Farid Bang, and they slammed Campino about his morals chatter, with boos coming in strong from the audience. The rappers didn't care.....they'd made their statement.
Whether people want to discuss the matter or not.....there's a division lining up in the music empire of Germany. The rap crowd are tossing out pieces of criticism....that some people believe is warranted or necessary. The other music crowd (I won't call them the anti-rappers).....are attempting to stand on some morals platform.
It's an odd public forum being created, with a fair segment of young Germans attracted to the rapper's criticism, and the older crowd attracted to the Campino position.
