Attack in Finnish College

There was an odd story that popped up Monday from Finland, which I felt worth noting.

This was up in Kuopio Savo....a town about three hours driving north of Helsinki.  As towns go, it's mid-sized.....roughly 118k residents.  It's surrounded by woods. 

On Monday, around noon....an attack started up at a local privately run occupational school.  Student from the class (guy) started to pull out a saber and went to attack the teacher (gal).  Things get kinda hectic....students in the class react by throwing chairs at the guy (amazing enough, they didn't run away).

Cops get the call at 12:29 and arrive within two to three minutes.  Saber-guy runs at them, and one cop reacts....pumping two shots into the guy.  At the eight-minute point after the call....it appears that the cops had this guy on the ground and in custody.  The cop arriving seriously wounds the attacker.  End result?  The gal is dead, and ten folks wounded (includes the cop, the attacker, and the folks in the class). 

So, as the story came out.....because of the saber.....it's assumed to be some foreign guy.....a terror-minded individual.  Well, cops finally came out yesterday and said no....he's a native Finn (born in Finland).  Guy has no arrests or reports on him.  Motive?  Unknown presently. 

Odd aspects?  They went to his apartment and he had some type of bomb that he'd been working on.  From the wounded and dead.....almost all are women (ages 15 to 55).  It appears that only the attacker and the policeman wounded....were the only males in this classroom.  From the police talk yesterday, they brought up that various procedures existed on handling this....oddly enough....coming from an attack at a occupational college in 2008. 

So I went back to look at the 2008 Kauhajoki school shooting that they refer to.  Ten people shot dead by another native-born Finn.  His background?  He'd had mental issues most of his life (depression among them).  He'd been tossed out of the Finn Army for disobeying orders.  He'd been in some hospitality-degree program for two years, when he walked in and shot folks at the school he was attending.

After this guy had finished shooting people, he started a fire in the building.  From the dead, eight of the ten were women (similar aspect to this saber guy).

The attack in this 2008 case....shot himself in the head as cops finally closed off any escape, but this went on for several hours as they tried to wait him out.

The notes this 2008 attacker left behind?  Well, cops say he had an intense hatred of mankind. 

Nutcase?  More than likely.  Just my view, but I suspect as the cops go through this shooting on Monday (attacker is still alive), I think he's read up on Kauhajoki and had a suicide-by-cop agenda in his mind, and generally hated women. 

The hyped-up terror angle or foreigner suggestion by a lot of folks on social media?  I often stress this....that you need to wait 48 to 72 hours....before getting to the basis of a story.  From all indicators, it appears that he was just a young nutcase, with a grudge against women.
