Germany and the Coronavirus: 3 April 2020

1.  Dead: 1001 (Focus numbers)   Infected:  79,450 (Focus numbers).

2.  Germans using public transport?  The experts say it's marginally between 10 and 20 percent of people still using public transport.  A severe cut on profits and it'll impact some of these companies.

3.  German heart experts are strongly advocating that if you feel heart attack symptoms....go to the hospital (even if you fear an infection might occur).

4.  Hessen (the state) has published a list of charges and 'fines' involving Corona.  If you have a group of more than two people coming into your house, and the cops investigate (suggesting a party or meeting).....that's 200 Euro.  If you return from a high-risk area and don't do a fourteen day voluntary quarantine in your house, then that's a 500 Euro fine.  If you rented out your spare bedroom for unauthorized tourists?  That's up to a judge to decide a fine between 500 and 5,000 Euro.

5.  If you pull up the N-TV graphic, the state by state infection rate shows western Germany severely affected.....eastern Germany MUCH less affected.  Death rate in Germany is 1.3-percent per each hundred of infected folks.  The Spanish rate?  9.1-percent.

6.  Siemens says they have a new virus ID test coming out (maybe in less than four weeks).  Amount of time after testing an individual?  Three hours.

7.  The border area with France (around the Saarland) is now reopened (limited to five points).  It should be noted.....only Germans and non-Germans with a residence permit, will be allowed to cross the border.

8.  Finally, to the brain damage discussion.  This started up in the last day or two....both in the US and in Germany.  In general....if you are on a prolonged artificial ventilation....there are issues which pop up....like permanent brain issues.  In simple terms....dementia-like issues can occur.

So you could have a 40-year old guy, who was in the hospital....PhD-type background, and emerge with thinking-level of a nine-year old kid.

Occurring to a lot of people?  No.  It's just that if you have the severe level of the virus, and get sent to the hospital....requiring a massive use of a ventilation system for a week.....you might emerge to be out of danger but have some level of diminished comprehension.

A big deal?  No one says numbers yet....it's just something that they've come to notice now.
