Kevin?

Several news sites in Germany are talking about this political story here in the AM today....Kevin Kühnert, who is the 'chief' of the junior SPD group (JUSO)....mostly younger Germans who are in the 18-to-25 year old group and hyped-up about the SPD Party....says he wants out as the JUSO chief, and the suggestion is, he'll run as the SPD Chancellor candidate in the fall election of 2021.

Age issue?  Kevin is 31 years old presently.  To reach any normal political position in Germany, you have to be 18 as a minimum.  The only exception is the position of German President (not Chancellor)....which requires you to be 40 or more.

Kühnert in general?

He is fairly clever and very capable in a debate situation.  Most of his positions are the type that the under-40 crowd who lean to the left....would agree to.  Negatives?  Well....at times, he across as a 'asshole'....meaning that his friendliness factor (scale of 1 to 10) is probably a 4 to 5 at best.  To be honest as well....I've never seen him in a tie.

Age being a negative?  Some older SPD enthusiasts would suggest that.

But here's the bigger of issues....the SPD really doesn't have a 5-star type candidate waiting to pick up the situation and run for Chancellor.  If you go to the 4-star list, it's only three or four people, and most are nearing 60 years old.

Kühnert making this a different type of election?  That's the suggestion that I would make.  A lot of the youth vote that in the past three years shifted from the SPD Party to the Greens....might return if he were the candidate.
