Around a month ago, the German Health Minister (Spahn, CDU Party) was all chatty and suggested that near 90-percent of Germans would get the vaccination in the end.
Presently (as of yesterday), the number for vaccinations is near 45-percent, and some folks are suggesting that the trend line is starting level out. N-TV spoke to this in the AM today.
In the past couple of days....the Health Minister had a new number that he got chatty on....saying that 80-percent was probably the realistic goal.
The number by the end of 2021? Unknown. There's been a fair amount of reporting over vaccination problems and certainly a segment of anti-vaccination folks exists in Germany (it might be close to one-third of the nation in my humble opinion). The fact that virus numbers are rapidly decreasing in the last six weeks? That plays into this as well.
Can you proclaim 'herd immunity' if you only have 65-percent of the public? My guess is that someone (whoever wins the September election) will proudly proclaim 65-percent as a decent start and try to re-hype the whole program.
I should state the obvious....most journalists have avoided talking about the booster-shot business, but the hype going on is that if you wrapped up the two shots in January of 2021.....you probably will need a booster shot by the end of 2021. There will be a fair amount of questions over this, and it'll be a slightly more difficult thing to sell folks on.
