More Namibia Stuff

About a week ago, I essayed a piece or two on Germany and Namibia....over the agreed sum of one billion Euro (over 30 years) to signal Germany's admitting they were wrong in slaughtering a fair number of two particular tribes around a hundred-twenty years ago.

The leadership of Namibia was all happy about the situation.  But they represent the 'other' tribes which weren't affected.

The two tribes in this mess (12-percent of the country's population) were NOT happy.  They felt the German money should only go to themselves, and it should be a fair bit more.

This morning....Focus came up with an update...the chief of the Herero tribe....Vikuii Reinhard Rukoro...is planning a mass protest situation when the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier comes to Namibia in the near future.

The chief purpose of the visit?  Well...Steinmeier intends to ask for forgiveness.  Yes, it's one of those types of tours.

What the journalists suggest is that Steinmeier do the forgiveness routine at the Namibian national congress building, and the opposition folks probably would get up and exit the room....making a scene.

All of this leading to chaos?  Well....you just don't know.  It's stupid things like this which develop into civil wars.

Most Germans would shake their head.....all this guilt business building up for decades, and trying resolve the guilt business.....you just invent a civil war out of thin air.
