On The Topic of Bus Drivers

My local town of Wiesbaden (285,000 residents) has a problem which has gotten some folks a bit disturbed.  For several months, they've been running a public bus system with a 'lite' schedule.

I'd describe it this way....whatever the bus schedule was prior to Covid (say 2019)....it's been about 85 to 90 percent of that schedule.

Why?  Well....there just aren't enough drivers to make this effort of a full schedule possible.

This week, the city finally announced that they've partnered up with a French bus company (Transdev) and the Bahn bus folks (DB Regio Bus)....to deliver what is a full-up schedule.

Ten-minute intervals now?  Well....at least on the main routes of the city.

What the city bus company will say....presently, there are at least 50 billets empty and finding or recruiting drivers is near impossible.  The French guys being brought in and housed?  More or less.

A national shortage of drivers?  That's the odd thing coming out of the whole discussion.  It's just not an occupation drawing recruits.
