Afternoon Update: Thuringian

Hour by hour, this chaos continues:

1.  The CDU state 'boss' of Thuringian finally said enough......he resigned around in the late evening or early morning hours from the party.  Mike Mohring, who had been considered a up and coming member of the party.

2.  Remaining leadership of the CDU state party now says it'll accept either a SPD or Green Party Premier-President candidate.  Just open a session, and the CDU has it's state assembly members ready to vote in a mass situation....to end the mess.

3.  The FDP folks?  They still say that an election needs to occur, to reshuffle the mess and make things right.

4. Kemmerich, the FDP guy who was the one-day Premier President, who triggered this mess?  He's now signed papers to waive his salary (a year of salary was on the books for him).

There will be an awful lot of chatter this weekend over how to resolve this now.  A lot of heated Linke Party accusations that they won the election, and they expect respect for the candidate position of Premier-President.  The idea that the Berlin CDU leadership is suggesting that a SPD or Green Party person can get their support....won't cut it.

A new election?  It would help to clear the air, but the FDP and CDU elements in the state are screwed in a royal way.  Both likely lose voters.  It's now probably the biggest cluster-f**k of German politics in thirty years.
