Quote of the Year

"Wars in Europe rarely start on a Wednesday."

-- Russia Ambassador to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, in a Welt interview.

Well, in all the history classes I've ever taken (probably over 20 of them), none ever chatted on the likely nature of war 'X' or war 'Y' starting on a Friday or a Monday.  So I can't say with any factual data that Mr Chizhov is correct here.

The soccer war between El Salvador and Honduras....lasting approximately 100 hours, started on a Monday.

The Falklands war started on a Monday (2 Apr 1982).

The Civil War?  It started on a Friday (12 April 1861).

The Crimean War?  It started on 5 Oct 1853 (yes, it was a Wednesday).
