Focus brought this up today, and it's a pretty weird story.
Banks in Germany, if you haven't paid attention....are all suffering in terms of profits. So this new idea came up via Sparkasse (a major German bank).
Sparkasse is fixing up a situation where they will handle ID card creation and the issue of driver's licenses. There's even talk of fishing licenses to be issued via the bank.
Digitalization helping? You could see that twenty years ago when the car-tag business went digital, and people started to ask why a city or county office was still necessary?
In my local village....the post office went away around a decade ago. There's now a corner in the local stationary/newspaper shop....that carries on all your postal needs and lotto requirements.
