The Alfons Schuhbeck Story

Schuhbeck is a German 'legend' of sorts....a pretty gifted cook, who will turn 74 in the next hundred-odd days.

He's the guy that you could throw ten things from a grocery shopping trip down on a kitchen table....and in an hour....he'd crank out a fantastic meal....without any recipe or notes.

He'd appear on TV at least a dozen times a year, and was known for being witty and with good humor.

So Schuhbeck had this habit....maybe for a couple of years....maybe for decades.

As he ran his own restaurant....at the conclusion of the day.....he might go to the cashbox, and lift some bills out.

I should note....his restaurant operation is the type that you'd probably pay in the range of a hundred Euro minimum (per person), and with the right wines....you might have spent 500 Euro for a couple.  So there was an ample amount of cash there.

The German tax folks finally did an audit and viewed the bill situation....coming to believe a lot of cash was missing.

The court case?  They come to the end....Schuhbeck will go to jail for roughly 3 years, if you figure good behavior.

Waste of space?  I suspect that most Germans would agree.  You could have easily required him to live near a prison for the period....worked there to improve their meals (for example).

I feel sorry for the guy...who feasted for sixty-odd years of his life...now having to accept 4-euro of cheapo crap daily in a prison setting for the next 1000-plus days of his life.
