Five German News Stories

 1.  Focus piece this AM....Russians used to have a policy for soldiers....if you were wounded 'enough'....you got sent home.  New policy....even badly wounded guys are patched up and sent back to the 'front'.

2.  Greta Thunberg now says she's coming to Lützerath on Saturday, for the hyped-up protest underway.  Cops say the Lützerath zone has been cleared except for the tunnel folks.  More of a protest expected for Saturday ('dog and pony show').

3.  WELT has a piece this AM....talking over the German gov't policy of building 400,000 apartments a year.....to resolve the housing crisis in numerous German cities.  There apparently is enough data now....to project that 400,000 new apartments....won't cut.  They need 700,000 to stay ahead of the crisis.  Don't go anticipating this problem will be solvable.

4.  N-TV had an interview with a economist on Russia and restocking their losses from the war (tanks, helicopters, etc).  Chief problem he points out....even if they had money in their hand....there's so many men taken from the economy....that plants couldn't possibly start production of new military hardware....until the 'war' ends.

5.  New trendy thing taking off in Hessen area....mini-grocery stores.  Best description....shop set up with a 3 meter by 8 meter structure (maybe 24 sq meters....half of a normal apartment).  For the most part....unmanned....you swipe at the door to enter.  You would be unable to use the shop without a bank card.  Mostly snack food and a small fruit area.
