Merkel: Not All Roses

Focus brought this up from political news today.

The campaign is underway, and Chancellor Merkel has to make political stops....speeches....and hype up the cause of the CDU Party.

So, she stopped yesterday in Annaberg-Buchholz....which is in Saxony (old DDR, for map reference).  Things didn't go well.

What can be said was that a fair number (some folks hint at 50 and some say it was near a 100) were throwing insults at Merkel left and right.

Now, I will say that this is the region where Pegida (the mass movement) is generally based, and you will find people more anti-immigrant minded than in most regions of Germany.

The odds of this at every stop? Very marginal.  You won't find Germans usually in some insult-mood at political rallies like this.  It'll usually enthusiasts of your party that show up.

Nationally, I would suggest that 10-percent of the general public is strongly anti-migrant/immigrant, with another forty-percent who ask questions and don't really believe given-hype.  This larger group won't go and vote with AfD....mostly because they don't think AfD has depth in other topics and the solution to the mess by AfD doesn't really make that much sense.  The fear of that forty-percent group is what has driven both the SPD and CDU Parties to shift....repair the problems as best as they can, and generally avoid migration and immigration as public topics.
