A German Cop Story

Today, a short 10-line piece came out via regional news in Frankfurt, and I will reference this mostly to the N-TV article (our commercial news network).

Basically, the public prosecutor  came up with some details of some Frankfurt city police.....who had emailed around various fotos, videos and text messages....which were....well, offensive and xenophobic (anti-foreigner).  Yep, caught.

All of this started up with some investigation on right-wing radicals (always those bad evil guys), and they started to backtrack on on-line names and accounts, and they led back to some Frankfurt cops.  Number?  Well....right now....five.

I'm guessing as they dig into the five and find other social media commentaries....more cops will get onto this 'bad boy' list.

Discharged or let go?  They are careful about what they say and you have to wonder if they are fearful over how many folks this might touch.

My observation is that you could end up with a thousand police in the Hessen region who've made some type of offensive or xenophobic commentary, and you can't really dismiss them or do a lot to correct the situation.

Stirring up a hornet's nest?  The problem here is that the public prosecutor office has to go and work with the cops on various crimes and investigations.  If one distrusts the other, then this relationship won't go far.

Then you have to go and wonder about the 10,000 new cops that they are talking about hiring, and if their social media chatter will make it hard to recruit more cops.  But it's best not to bring up this issue.
