Luxembourg Story

At some point in the summer period of 2019....Luxembourg (the nation) will go to free public transport.  No tickets to be required.

Is it really free?  No....somewhere in the system, all costs will be borne by the state....without the income tax and sales tax.

Will it make any difference on traffic?  Some PhD types think 'yes'.  Proof?  None.  With 590,000 residents across the small nation....about the size of Rhode Island....it's not exactly a big place.  Five rail networks cross the small nation, with a tram service within the capital city itself.

The odds that it will be reversed in five to ten years?  Personally....I give it a 50-50 shot that it'll be considered a failure unless they ban entry into the city by cars.  In fact, I would suggest by the end of 2020.....you will see some car ban discussion going on....just to encourage more people to ride the buses and trains.
