This Vote of No-Confidence in France

Unbelievably, several political parties have banded together (the Socialist Party, Defiant France and the Communist Party) and asked for a vote of no-confidence on President Macron of France.

A big deal?  Well.....first, out of the 577 seats....Macron's party has 308 seats.  These three parties would have to go and convince five additional parties to go along with this vote, and then talk about a hundred of Macron's party-members....to agree with them.  No one says this might happen.

Second, once you establish this no-confidence threshold.....there's a 48-hour waiting period, and then you have to vote.  So it'll happen prior to Friday.

Third, this idea goes to article 49 of the French Constitution....which says in a cryptic way that the vote would signify the end of the government.  If you bring up article 49, it's the type of conversation that four PhD government guys would carry on a conversation for six hours and really not reach a conclusion.

Triggering a new election?  Yes.  But I would caution anyone discussing this....you'd have to find a hundred Macron party members to agree, and it dissolves them if a new election were to occur....meaning this big huge empty space would occur, and create a very difficult environment for the dozen other parties to find the path ahead.  In other words.....if you thought things were bad now.....it could get much worse.  A new replacement 'Macron-figure' with increased public issues?  Yes.

A shock?  Just to suggest this vote was one thing.....but to find a hundred Macron members to go along?  That's really the bigger shock.
