Around two months ago, there was hype going on in Germany about 25 November....when the epidemic period would officially end. At the time, there were very low infection numbers and things looked 'fairly good'.
So everyone circled 25 November and felt it'd be a great day. No one was suggesting parties or parades....just that it'd be worth toasting a beer, or thinking over 2019 (the last great year).
Well....presently, I don't think anyone will utter 'freedom day' today. 82k new infections were reported in the past 24 hours. Present 7-day infection rate is 404 (per 100k residents). 445 deaths via Covid were reported yesterday.
My general advice....if around Germans today...don't bring freedom day up in conversation.

Speaking of Nov. 25th, have you 'Americanized' your German wife enough to celebrate our Thanksgiving or has she 'Germanized' you enough to pass on the American holiday?
Also, you must know other ex-pats in the area; do you ever get together to celebrate American holidays, ie. July 4th, etc?
The general strategy is to make use of the Ramstein o'club Thanksgiving dinner ($29 ea). On grading it...2-star at best. Lot of enforcement on Covid...you had a 3G situation (test, vaccinated or recovered) which you had to prove. Then you had to sign into their system via the barcode/smart phone deal....which oddly enough is NOT the same APP that Germans typically use. Dinner was heavily salted, mostly out of can, and no cherry pie. Will probably source another option for 2022.
On celebrations, since Covid started....a lot of the choices dropped in a drastic sense. Expect same for 2022.
Will say this...other than the 4th and Thanksgiving...the German holidays get more bang for the buck (X-mas, Silvester-New Years, Easter).
