Air Travel

The major airport of Germany is Frankfurt's Flughafen....about 12 miles from my house.  HR (public TV for the region) talked about the traffic/passenger situation of the airport for 2021 this morning.

A typical year (2019) would have seen around 70 million passengers for the year.  For 2021?  24.8 million passengers.  On the positive side?  Well....for 2020, it was around the 16 million point....a disaster year for air travel.

There is some recovery going on and people are traveling more in the past couple of months than the twelve years prior.

For a lot of Germans....big air-travel (like going off to Australia or Thailand)....simply isn't on their mind.  Right now, I'd say Spain and Greece are drawing more interest.  Concern over ban-rules?  Yeah, and that probably won't go away in 2022.

The fact that a lot of Germans discovered RV travel in 2020/2021?  Well....that plays into this as well.  There's probably a million-plus Germans who got into RVs in the past two years, and they found that they like the simplicity of it.  They might return to air travel eventually, when Covid becomes a flu-like situation....instead of a epidemic.
