How Big A Deal Is This Niger Coup Business To Germany?

Well....for several years, the German military has provided a unit to Mali, the neighboring country to the west of Niger.

At some point in the past six months, it was determined that it was now approaching the point where the German presence needed to be 'ended' in Mali.

After viewing the way that the Biden Administration left Afghanistan....there's been a general plan existing that the German military, at the appropriate time, would drive out of Mali....heading south....into Niger, and then fly out of 'safe' Niger.

That plan now?  Crapped out.

Adding to the mess?  Signals from Burkina Faso (the other neighbor to Mali and Niger)....warning outsiders not to get entangled in this current mess.

The evacuation plane yesterday from Niger?  French effort to get Europeans out of the country.

This now a top 3 news item in Germany?  Oddly enough....yes.

Some of this possibly a Russian effort to destabilize the region?  Well....some folks believe that.

But we can also say that the only reason that Germany got into military unit support in Mali....was a era in French where terrorism was a big deal, and France asked Germany to take up this Mali mission so that the French troops could come back and patrol the streets of France.
