1. My weather guy did the 14-day forecast for central Germany. End of next week....3-day dry period with a heat wave hitting. Well....heat wave of 26 C (79 F) max for the three days. Don't worry....after that, we slip back to the 20 C pattern again.
Past week, fewer than 20-percent of people in authentic summer attire, when I've been out-and-about. I've seen a few Germans in authentic winter attire.
Pool business since early July? Crapped-out.
My dead lawn? It's come to life....I'll have to mow it by the end of next week.
2. There was an awful lot of time spent on the Thursday night news with ARD/ZDF (public TV folks)....to explain the German women's soccer ending in Australia/NZ. The general expectation was that they'd make it at least to the final four, and that didn't happen.
To be honest, if you asked around....nine out of ten Germans probably haven't watched a single game of the women's World Cup.
3. About halfway between Munich and Zurich....on the German border and in some Alpine mountain area....all contact to the outside world has been cut off for six weeks. Some damage to a cable bringing internet to the town of Leupolz. ATM machine doesn't work....no telephone service....no internet....nothing.
4. Suwalki Gap? Odds are....you never heard of it.
It's this 40 km border region of Poland and Lithuania. To one side (end) is the Russian-controlled area of Kaliningrad and to the other end is Belarus.
There's some hype that a fake conflict will be started to control the Suwalki Gap, and take 'control' of this area (figure a 10 km chunk of Lithuania that would have to be 'taken').
Odds of NATO reacting? 100-percent.
BS-level? It'd become a rather reckless thing to go and think you could take some 400 square kilometer area without a lot of trouble.
All of this leading back to how Kaliningrad was written into the WW II ending? More or less.
5. Another Eritrea festival was held....this time in Sweden. Yep.....another riot situation, 100 folks arrested. 50 folks injured in the brawl.
6. The burned-out car freighter "Fremantle Highway" has finally reached port (Eemshaven, Netherlands). Had to be towed....limping along and leaning a good bit to the right....maybe by 5 degrees.
Water and fuel will be removed, then the cars will be dragged off. Roughly 3,700 vehicles on the freighter.....total loss.
