For about 2 years, there's been this criminal scheme going on in Germany. You will get this SMS message on your handy which says basically: Hello Mother/Father, my handy was lost, and I got a new one with a new number, your loving son.
People will sometimes accept this without asking questions. Days later, you get a SMS message from the kid again about some problem.
Then a third message comes that they have a problem which costs money, and need you to send a transfer amount....maybe 200 Euro....maybe 500 Euro....to resolve the problem. Then you discover....the whole thing was a scheme to rob you.
Me? I've probably gotten this SMS at least three times since 2021 (just last week, I got the latest one).
Cops? They investigate but there's literally dozens of these occurring daily so they are continually behind the 8-ball.
Are Germans that gullible? Well....this is a good question to ask.
They generally always have some thought in their head to 'help' their kids. If anything, they are more likely to act without being skeptical. My skeptical side? It's pinging at 300-percent around the clock.
