Chemnitz and Saturday

If you go through the various news groups, there are basically five things to say about Chemnitz from Saturday:

1.  Roughly 9,500 folks showed up to protest.  The labeling of the 9,500 was mostly neo-Nazi, extreme-right wing, and 'thugs'.

2.  Cops deployed?  Near 1,800, from Saxony and nine other states....along with some Federal police folks.

3.  Total injuries?  Nine folks had to be taken care of, and cops say they arrested around two dozen (mostly for damaging things).

4.  For some reason (unexplained), the SPD Party folks decided to make a show out of the counter-demonstration, with their flags.  This apparently didn't go well....with the group attacked by the demonstrators and their flags either destroyed or taken away.  I know....it does sound childish but everyone has some political agenda going on.

5.  'Lugenpresse' was uttered a good bit.....German for lying press.  It's become a public statement in these episodes to use the phrase and go negative against news media folks.

What happens next?  Unknown.

All of the accusations against protest groups, the use of anti-extreme right-wing commentary, and the news media hype.....I have some doubt that they are making much effect.  There are a fair number of Germans who've given up watching public TV news (ARD and ZDF).

If this were to become a weekly event, it'd be a problem for the cops (from various states) to support Saxony.  There's just not enough manpower to handle week after week demonstrations....without affecting individual cities with a lessened police presence.

All of this to lead onto public chat forum activity?  Well....that's the sad thing about this.  You will get six people all chatting about Nazi-this and Nazi-that, and people hitting mute because it's a slanted chat forum from the perception of observing the 'show'.
